Intervention with Coastal Communities

After Tsunami Arunodhaya started working with the coastal communities. Though relief was the entry point emphasis is laid on building up community based organisations to empower the coastal communities to rebuild their lives.

The programmes are implemented through a network Forum for land and Livelihood Rights of Coastal Communities (FLLRC) Arunodhaya, C.Dot, Udavi and NAWO are the members of this network.

The primary focus of FLLRC is to ensure that the homestead right of coastal community is secured so that people will have a dignified life with access to the sea and the coast. FLLRC trust that people based movements can meet their needs and rights. FLLRC has hence been working with community based organization like Coastal Community People Movement (CCPM), Act Now on Women’s Rights in Disasters-India (ANWoRD) National Coastal Women Movement (NCWM) to facilitate the process to restore land rights to the coastal community.
